Middle School Pre-Collegiate Development Program
What is the Middle School Program?
The Middle School Pre-Collegiate Development Program is designed to support students and families as they explore and prepare for academic success in middle school, high school, and beyond. Through structured programming and responsive, student-centered support, we help students build the foundational skills, confidence, and awareness necessary to pursue a path to higher education.
Success Workshops
Our Success Workshops provide structured opportunities for scholars to learn and apply essential academic and personal development skills. Topics include time management, note-taking, prioritizing tasks, communication, social-emotional awareness, and leadership.
- Activities are designed by Pre-Collegiate professional staff in collaboration with campus and community partners.
- Workshops are facilitated by the Program Manager, Program Coaches, and guest speakers from UCCS departments and the broader community.
Workshops occur one Friday per month during school hours on the UCCS campus, scheduled by grade-level cohorts.
Individualized Mentoring
In addition to structured workshops, our program offers flexible, student-centered mentoring to support each scholar’s individual academic journey. Students and families are encouraged to reach out with questions or concerns—whether in person, by phone, or by email—and our team responds with personalized coaching tailored to the student’s availability and preferred method of communication.
This ongoing access to support reflects our belief that students deserve more than one-size-fits-all programming. Whether they need help understanding high school options, navigating academic challenges, or planning for their future, scholars can count on our team to provide responsive guidance throughout the year.
Individualized mentoring ensures that students don’t simply attend monthly workshops and then navigate the rest of their journey alone—it reinforces that support is available whenever it’s needed.
Application Process
The application process includes both online and in-person components and consists of the following steps:
- Attend an Information Session
Each year, beginning in January when our recruitment season launches, many of our long-standing school partners invite us to their campuses to conduct information sessions for students and families. These school-hosted briefings reflect an ongoing commitment to the services we provide their students and are the preferred way for families to learn about the program. While attendance is not required, it is strongly encouraged so that students and families gain a full understanding of what the program is, what it offers, and what participation entails. Families who are unable to attend a school-based session may request an individual phone consultation with program staff. - Begin the Online Application
After attending an information session (or speaking with staff), students and families can begin the application online. Additional forms or required signatures may be collected in person to complete the process. - Submit a Recent Grade Report
Applicants must submit a current grade report. Acceptable formats include official or unofficial transcripts, or screenshots from learning management systems (e.g., PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Schoology). The report must clearly show the student’s name and the date. - Participate in a Personal Interview (if requested)
Some applicants may be invited to a brief (10–15 minute) interview with Pre-Collegiate staff. The interview helps assess the student’s level of interest and potential for success in the program, should they be accepted.
