The College Experience Program

About the Program

The College Experience

The College Experience (CXP) is a program funded by the El Pomar Foundation that helps scholars explore different college campuses for free.  It allows the Pre-Collegiate Program to hold these college visits throughout the Pikes Peak region so that students can make informed decisions about where they want to pursue postsecondary opportunities.  It also allows local postsecondary institutions the opportunity to welcome first-generation students, and students with limited access to postsecondary education to their campuses so they can showcase their programs.

History of the Program
Between 2010 and 2018, the El Pomar Foundation ran what was formerly known as the College Readiness and Success Program.  It was designed to provide students with opportunities to prepare for and access colleges and universities.  After 8 successful years, the program was transitioned to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Pre-Collegiate Development Program where it became The College Experience.

College Visits

The College Experience series gives Pre-Collegiate scholars and guests the opportunity to experience four unique college campus settings in the Pikes Peak Region. Visits will include workshops and sessions, tours, as well as opportunities to experience campus highlights that make each institution unique.

College Experience events are held at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak State College, Colorado College, and the United States Air Force Academy. The College Experience events take place at each campus once per year, usually on Saturdays. Programming is differentiated by grade level and/or is also tailored to the scholars' career and educational interests.

CXP Ambassadors

Ambassadors are professionals within the Pikes Peak region who have volunteered to work with groups of students at The College Experience events to provide guidance, insight, and mentorship through each campus visit. Ambassadors work with students from the opening session to the closing session and participate with the students in workshop sessions.
